THENI TO KODAI THROUGH HILLS

Kodaikanal “Princess of Hills” popular hill station among summer travellers, budget travellers, group of friends (thanks to the new gen movie – Manjumal Boys), newlywed couples for its serenity and tranquillity. Set at 2000 meters above sea level, with cool and misty weather, the scenic beauty of the rolling hills attracts tourist almost year-round. Unlike Ooty Kodai is not much commercialised, travellers are treated with serene, nature- focused getaway. 

There has been a significance increase in tourism in Kodai off late, particularly after the release of movie “Manjumal Boys” which was shot in the place called “Devil’s Kitchen” which is also called as “Guna Caves” after that movie. The film’s success has raised the number of visitors to Kodai, with travellers eager to visit the place with their group of friends where the event unfolded.

Road trip – Theni to Kodai Road trip through the hills is excellent idea. There are 02 roads to choose from for this road trip to Kodaikanal. In the first place is Via Addukam a must visit route for the weekend bikers with 2hrs travel time for 67kms scenic roads in Western Ghats, the reason being the scenic route. The other option is the Vathalagundu/Bathalagundu road, takes 85kms around 2 hrs 30mins travel.

Addukam Route is a distance saver in general, not just that! 36kms in this distance is covered with forest route (Forest area ofAddukam) and also about almost 2kms of mango farms on the way until you reach the check post of the hill station. If you are fortunate enough and travelling during the monsoons you could see the mist covering your path completely, isn’t that dream ride of any traveller. Has almost 20 hair pins bends. Not the end yet you will treat with an eye dropping view of the Kumbakkarai Waterfalls – the signature falls in every Kodaikanal tour plan. This route is narrow and you need drive safe.

Vathalagundu / Batlagundu route is the general route preferred by the Govt Bus, heavy vehicles and fast-moving vehicles since it is plain road. No thrill, no fear just like any highway with minimal hill ride. Once you reach the hills get comfortable and explore the major sights in Kodai like Berijam Lake, Kodai Lake, Pine Forest, Gunna Caves, Coaker’s Walk and other adventure activities. The misty landscapes and laid back vibe will make this trip ideal for any type of traveller.
